Yellowstone Park Camping and Campground Information

NOTE: These dates are for the summer of 1997. Dates for the summer of 1998 have not yet been released. However, opening and closing dates should be similar to last year's dates. Services at each campground will likely remain the same.

The following table uses these abbreviations:

BB: Bridge Bay Campground, located 3 miles south of Fishing Bridge Jct.
CV: Canyon Village Campground, located 1/4 mile east of Canyon Jct.
FB: Fishing Bridge RV Park, located 2 miles east of Fishing Bridge Jct.
GV: Grant Village Campground, located 3 miles south of West Thumb Jct
M: Madison Campground, located 1/2 mile west of Madison Jct
MH: Mammoth Hot Springs Campground, located 1 mile north of the jct. at Mammoth Hot Springs
IC: Indian Creek Campground, located 7 miles south of Mammoth
LL: Lewis Lake Campground, located between the South Entrance and West Thumb
N: Norris Campground, located near the Norris Geyser Basin (Closed for the 1996 season due to budget)
PC: Pebble Creek Campground, located 8 miles "inside" the North East Entrance
SC: Slough Creek Campground, located 6 miles east of Tower Jct.
TF: Tower Falls Campground located 2 miles south of Tower Jct

Reservations can be made at Bridge Bay Campground, Canyon Campground, Fishing Bridge RV Park, Grant Village Campground, and Madison Campground through AmFac Parks and Resorts at (307) 344-7211 or TDD (307) 344-5395.

If you are planning on hiking and camping in the Yellowstone backcountry, a free permit for designated backcountry campsites can be picked up 48 hours in advance of your trip at any ranger station. Backcountry campsites can be reserved farther in advance for a small fee by phoning the National Park Service at (307) 344-7381
